Before there was the Harlem Renaissance, there was Washington DC's Lincoln Theatre. Central to the rise of African-American theatre in the United States, the Lincoln Theatre has been a cultural treasure since 1922. The Lincoln Theatre schedule is jam packed with a variety of events that highlight America's multicultural experience. From Carrie Fisher to Alicia Keys, the range and scope of performers and genres is unparalleled. Join the Lincoln Theatre as it celebrates 90 years of the performing arts. Use Eventful as your source for the Lincoln Theatre schedule and to receive regular updates regarding all of your favorite local events.

Built in 1922, the Lincoln Theater was host to performances by a variety of artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Nat King Cole, and Louis Armstrong to name a few. During the 1940s, President Franklin D. Roosevelt hosted several of his birthday parties at the Lincoln Theater. The theater fell into disarray after the 1968 Washington, D.C. riots and eventually shut its doors. A revival effort took place in 1993 when the theatre was named to the National Register of Historic Places. It was restored and reopened in 1994 with a performance of Ain't Got Long to Stay Here, a play detailing Martin Luther King Jr.'s biography.

The theatre can comfortably host 1,250 patrons for events ranging from the performing arts, stand-up comedy, and live musical events from contemporary artists. It has recently become a haven for the revival of jazz music and has featured performances by Quincy Jones and Chuck Brown. The Lincoln Theatre is truly committed to offering the best performers regardless of background or genre. Don't miss a performance by your favorite musician, performer, poet, or playwright!
